One thing has surfaced in this era of hyped Artificial Intelligence ( AI ). Looking back, at the dawning of the 21 st century, risk was given and still holds a seat in the boardroom.
These days, a new board seat has been provided to accommodate AI. Board members’ typical questions are how and where to start or from where we are, how do we risk proof migrating to a stable AI operating environment.
AI is looked at as a complex organizational transformation beginning to impact jobs and people competence. Typically raised are jobs creation, jobs soon to vanish, upskilling, reskilling.
Generative AI which is rooted primarily on video, image, text and music, has become a magic, a wow and a eureka item.
Moving to a next level, Agentic AI is now getting center stage attention. How can consultants with their portfolio of solutions play their role well in this AI era ?
Being asked “what do I do” or “how do I tackle it”, clients can now conveniently raise such or prompt ChatGPT, Co-pilot, Gemini among others, to reply.
Transformative as it looks, it is not mere technology transformation, it is likewise business or organizational transformation. As the saying goes technology is not the total solution, it however enables solutions.
Individuals and entities using Generative AI are being benefited specifically with speed, productivity, efficiency, competitive advantage and pointers or inputs to innovativeness and sustainability.
They are also the typical hallmarks why consulting assistance is sought. Can AI outgrow consulting pursuits? How do consultants stay relevant or focused in the prevailing business and economic times?
- Balanced knowledge of human beings and technical beings- this reiterates the fact that all entity endeavors /consulting engagements touch on people and there is always a human factor involved aside from providing technically anchored solutions to clients. This is a plus sign to those in the Human Resource management consulting field.
- Governance, risk and compliance systems execution- Disruptions, uncertainties in the so called VUCA ( vulnerable uncertain, complex, ambiguous) operating environment be it in a domestic or global arena will naturally call for or demand effective or responsive governance, risk and compliance systems . Management consultants by and large address governance, risk management and compliance needs of clients.
- Cultural and behavioral influence and enrichment- Developing capacities of AI agents to sense and improve cultural, behavioral postures or mindsets are still in the drawing boards of developers. This is still the domain of the warm body consultant.
From a established working relationship, a fourth dimension is when consultants and clients work together and agree to unravel the magic and likely confusions or hallucinations AI can bring .
The client organization can be steered towards a change resilient, effective, profitable and sustainable state.
